Education

Kiwalala Secondary School

On 15 March 2007, 80 pupils were able to start education at the new Kiwalala secondary school after a building program financed by Green Resources. The pioneer students have their first week clearing the school campus and each making one's desk. The direct expenditures for building materials were TSh 6 mn, but Green Resources was also responsible for planning and purchasing of the material and overseeing the progress, leading to a total cost of the investment of TSh 8 mn.

Mbao Ihefu Primary Schooll

In 2002, Green Resources built six new classrooms for the Ihufu primary school, more than doubling the number of classrooms, and allowing each of the forms to have their own class room. The total cost of the project was TSh 30 mn (US$ 24,000).

Bukaleba Girl’s Scholarship

Busoga Forestry Company (BFC) is managing a scholarship program for girls in and around Bukaleba that pays for secondary school education. The scholarship is for academically strong performing girls who otherwise would not have been able to continue going to school beyond primary education.

A number of excellent students are prohibited from going to secondary school because the family lacks the financial capacity to pay for the schooling. BFC works with the primary schools around Bukaleba to find the most deserving girls. The scholarship pays boarding school fees, the school uniform and the normal expenditures that are required.

The direct cost of the scholarship is paid for by www.karenanders.org, while BFC is responsible for the selection of the students, ensuring the implementation and success of the program. Two girls are currently benefiting from the scholarship. The scholarship program will grow by 1-2 students per year.
